Gazan Doctor amputates niece's leg on kitchen table without anesthesia

The Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip persist, leaving a trail of devastation and heartbreak. On December 19, the Bseiso family home became a target during an artillery strike, tragically injuring 16-year-old Ahed, who suffered severe injuries to her legs. Despite the proximity to Shifa Hospital, a mere five-minute distance, the blockade imposed by Israel made it impossible for Ahed to reach the hospital in time. In a harrowing account, Dr. Hani Bseiso, Ahed's uncle and an Orthopedic Surgeon at Shifa Hospital, found himself faced with an unimaginable situation. Forced to conduct emergency medical procedures without anesthesia or proper equipment, he amputated Ahed's right leg on the table using improvised tools and supplies from the kitchen. After the withdrawal of Israeli forces, Ahed sought medical attention, and her uncle continued to provide care. Dr. Hani shared his experience of being confined at home for 22 days, the difficulties faced during the siege, and the heartbreaking incident on December 19.
