These vudeo clips demonstrate two aspects of red deer stag behaviour in the rutting season, which comes around in October each year (in southern England). The first clip shows the roaring / belling / bellowing behaviour that announces a stag to its neighbours, and to any females that are close by. The second clip shows the curious habit of tossing bracken into the air, which can often result in a stag carrying many fern fronds on their antlers so that they look as if they are wearing a long-haired wig. Clip 1 (12 seconds): Red deer stag roaring, several short grunts, then breath enitted as steam. Clip 2 (16 seconds): Red deer stag flings bracken into the air and then roars three times.
