South Korea Reacts To The North Korean Train Disaster
INCHEON, SOUTH KOREA - APRIL 24: Lee Yoon-Gu, president of South Korean National Red Cross, answers questions at a news conference at Incheon airport on April 24 2004 in Incheon, South Korea. Lee visited North Korea's capital, Pyongyang on April 20 for a five-day trip for talks on inter-Korean cooperation. Secretive North Korea on Saturday broke its official silence on a catastrophic rail explosion, saying it had been sparked by an 'electrical contact caused by carelessness'. The International Red Cross say at least 154 people have been killed with more than 1,200 people injured. The UN's World Food Program said; North Korea has accepted offers of help from the United Nations and the Red Cross. China pledged 1.2 million U.S dollars in aid and South Korea's acting President Goh Kun today approved sending 1 million U.S dollars in medical and other emergency supplies to help relief efforts.
