Light micrograph of luteinised ovarian cells. The cells present in the ovarian stroma (connective tissue) may undergo luteinisation in response to hormone stimulation. The luteinised cells, such as those seen in the central area of this image, have rounded nuclei (blue round dots) and acquire larger amounts of cytoplasm making them larger and more eosinophilic (pinker). The surrounding non-luteinised ovarian stromal cells are smaller and have spindled nuclei (dark slightly elongated blue dots). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
