The famous Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, one of the most iconic landmark in France, visited by more than 3 millions of people each year. It is an island commune, located on a tidal islet at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. The abbey, its outbuildings and sixty other buildings are classified as historic monuments. The islet and the coastal strip of the bay have been on the UNESCO world heritage list since 1979.
