Manila, PHILIPPINES: A store personnel shows a box of the popular "White Rabbit" candy brand from China pulled out from the shelf in at a Manila store, 18 July 2007, after the government Bureau of Food and Drugs banned four Chinese food products that were found laced with formalin, a cancer-causing chemical. China's safety standards have come under sharp international criticism amid regular reports of fake, shoddy or dangerous goods emanating from the nation's chaotic and corrupt food and drug industry. Meanwhile China suspended on 13 July 2007 the importation of chicken feet, pig ears and other animal parts from 10 companies in the US, Vietnam and the Philippines after inspectors found traces of chemicals and dangerous bacteria.
