Picture is an aerial view of the north-easten part of Venice, as seen from the Saint Mark's Square point of view. The picture shows mainly the Castello district, with a view on the Campo Santa Maria Formosa, its church and bell tower and the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, a XIVth century gothic church, one of the largest in Venice, known as the place of burial of 25 doges. Behind the Castello, the Venitian lagoon can be seen, with the small island of San Michele and Murano. All the area is classified as an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, as part of the inscription of Venice and its lagoon.
