GENERAL INFORMATION: JORDAN, MN. 3/22/2001: Artist Gwen Sides from Jordan is restoring 14 Stations of the Cross for St. Benedict's Church. It's a little old scenic church between Jordan and New Prague. The stations were painted in 1884 in Germany on 22x33-inch copper sheets. Gwen documents each panel, then carefully strips away bad paint before priming the copper and blending and duplicating the original colors. She's finished 10 panels and has two more nearly complete. SheÕll complete the last two in the coming weeks. She works on the pieces during the week; on Friday mornings, they go back to the church so members of the parish can pray before them at Friday evening Lenten services. The stations tell the story of the crucifixion, from JesusÕ condemnation by Pontius Pilate through Jesus being laid in the Tomb. IN THIS PHOTO: Most of the Romanesque fresco painting in St. BenedictÕs was completed in 1931, complementing the statuary and paintings acquired by the church throughout the late 1800Õs. Four of the refurbished stations of the cross can be seen in this photo, hung on either side of the statues on the right.(Photo By DARLENE PFISTER/Star Tribune via Getty Images)
