Candle-lighting Festival Twinkles In Hard-hit Kumamoto Prefecture

Footage taken on February 5, 2017, Japan, in the village of Nishihara, Kumamoto Prefecture, shows a hollering contest and an outdoor display of about 3,000 candles lit near a volcanic caldera on Mount Aso. About half of the residences in the village were destroyed during a series of powerful earthquakes that struck the prefecture last April. The regularly held event might have been cancelled had not a road to the venue been made passable in December.
