Cockfighting in Kotalpur, known as 'Murgi Lorai' is believed by the Hindu community to expel evil spirits and is called 'tabuh rah' (pouring blood) where the losing bird's spilt blood is offered to the spirits to prevent their livestock and pets from suffering from outbreaks of disease causing death. The ritual is held every Poush Sankrinti.
