Washed Ashore, Art to Save the Sea
DENVER, CO - June 07: Small pieces of plastic trash collected from the sea adorn the side of the Rufus the Triggerfish sculpture at the Denver Zoo June 07, 2016. The sculpture is the first of 15 that will be in place for the Washed Ashore, Art to Save the Sea traveling exhibit that opens officially September 24, 2016. The exhibit developed by the Washed Ashore Project, will feature 15 giant sculptures of sea life made almost entirely out of marine debris and plastic pollution collected in the sea from the organization lead by artist Angela Haseltine Pozzi. With the help of thousands of student and volunteers, the group has combed over 300 miles of coastline, collecting 18 tons of garbage off beaches, creating sculptures. In September Rufus will be joined by sculptures Priscilla the Parrotfish, Flash the Marlin, Chompers the Great White Shark and many sculptures made out of marine trash.
