A picture taken on March 3, 2012 shows boats moored on a beach at dawn in the UNESCO-listed Indian Ocean island of Lamu, where an ambitious port project has stirred mixed emotions with a part of the indigenous community fearing that the huge port, although located some 10 kilometres (six miles) from the UNESCO-listed island, will impact on their livelihoods and accusing the government of ignoring their concerns. Since the East African nation's independence from Britain in 1963, life on the island, teeming with exotic flora and fauna has remained largely that of a fishing village with donkey-alley's instead of roads and relying on generator-powered grid for its electricity needs. Kenya launched the construction of a massive port, railway and refinery on March 2 in a project it bills as the biggest ever in an African nation. Kenya hopes the 24.5 billion USD project will uplift its economic development in the next two decades. AFP PHOTO / TONY KARUMBA (Photo credit should read TONY KARUMBA/AFP via Getty Images)
