Baekeland, (left), inventor of Bakelite and president of the Bakelite corporation, who was an honored guest at the dinner at the University Club, Dec. 2nd, at which the Dow Chemical Company received the 1941 Award for Chemical Engineering Achievement, shows the first tube of Bakelite, produced 35 years ago, to Colonel Alfred H. White, Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Michigan. Colonel White presented the award, which was established in 1933 and presented biennially by the McGraw-Hill magazine, Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering.
