Artwork and hieroglyphics cover the walls and ceilings of the tombs, all done in amazing detail, with vivid colors still apparent. The Valley of the Kings, on the west bank of the Nile, by Luxor, was the necropolis of the New Kingdom pharaohs who reigned from 1550-1069 BC. At least 63 tombs have been discovered and several are open for visitors to enter. They are numbered in the order of their discovery beginning with the letters K.V. for Kings Valley.
