Holburne Museum Launches Public Appeal To Acquire Rare Beadwork Basket
BATH, ENGLAND - APRIL 23: Matthew Winterbottom, Curator of Decorative Art, holds a rare seventeenth-century beadwork basket that the Holburne Museum has launched a appeal to acquire for its permanent collection at the Holburne Museum on April 23, 2013 in Bath, England. Made in England around 1665, the basket - which depicts Charles II who had recently been restored to the throne, and Catherine of Braganza next to a castle within a leafy landscape - is a rare survivor and is made from thousands of brightly coloured glass beads of varying sizes, threaded onto fine wires and attached to the mesh-like basket frame. To secure it for its collection, the Holburne needs the public to make donations totaling 6,000 GDP towards the 78,000 GDP cost of the basket, the majority of which is being sought through grants. The Museum has until July to raise 6,000 GDP. (Photo by Matt Cardy/Getty Images)
