On the Front Line With The Free Syrian Army in Aleppo

ALEPPO, SYRIA - NOVEMBER 3: (AUSTRALIA OUT) A fighter from the Shohada al Haq brigade of the Free Syrian Army prepares for a raid to clear a new apartment building in the no-mans land area near the Salahudeen district on November 3, 2012 in Aleppo, Syria. The Shohada al Haq, or 'Martyrs of Truth' brigade control an area on the edge of the Salahudeen district in Aleppo, Syria's largest city. The brigade is made up of around 70 men, holding a handful of positions hidden in apartment blocks on the front line of Aleppo, facing toward Syrian army positions sometimes less than one hundred meters away. The Shohada al Haq use snipers to target Syrian regime troops as they move on the other side of the front, as well as moving between apartment blocks in the 'no man's land' between the two forces, occupying positions of advantage over the Syrian military. The brigade, or 'Katiba', live in the apartments they occupy, and the unit of rebel fighters is made up of former soldiers who defected from the Syrian military alongside men from Aleppo and other cities across Syria who have chosen to fight in Syria's increasingly violent civil war.
