Taiwan Celebrates The Beginning Of Ghost Month

KEELUNG, TAIWAN - AUGUST 20: A Daoist ritual master lead a ceremoney to beckon the spirits of the dead before releasing water lanterns into the sea to celebrate the mid-summer Ghost Month Festival on August 20, 2013 in Keelung, Taiwan. Paper houses are burnt at sea to retrieve ghosts and lonely spirits of underworld through waterways leading back to the land as part of a Pudu (universal salvation) ritual. On the 14th day of the 7th lunar month, the gates of the underworld are opened for the spirits of the departed to come back to the land for a month long period of universal salvation in the land of the living.
