Indian Muslims depart after performing the Fajr (dawn) prayers at the Masjid Sangemarmar Wali mosque, a small community mosque located in the Old Delhi quarters of New Delhi on July 24, 2014. Muslims, at 11.7 percent, form the second largest religious community after Hinduism in New Delhi. The majority of the city's Muslim population reside in the Old Delhi quadrant, where small neighbourhood mosques play the role of community centres, providing space for worship, charity, and religious education. Congregational attendance of these mosques peak during the holy month of Ramadan, as Muslims focus on prayer and devotion ahead of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the Muslim fasting month.
