Life In AIDS Community In Phnom Penh Outskirts

Three different communities live on the outskirts of Phnom Penh in the village of Tuol Sambo, called the "AIDS colony" by locals as close to 50 families living there are HIV-positive. Since almost all health organisations ceased operating in Tuol Sambo several months ago, the community is entirely dependent on one clinic which provides HIV medication free of charge once a week. This isolated community, of which 10% are children who were born with HIV, struggles from a lack of access to income, proper nutrition and other essential services. Despite these challenges, new HIV-positive families have recently arrived to Tuol Sambo seeking a place where discrimination is not part of their daily life.
