Musical Acts Join Anti-Pegida Rally In Dresden

Leading German musical acts performed for tens of thousands of people making a statement against Pegida. Pegida is an acronym for 'Patriotische Europaeer Gegen die Islamisierung des Abendlandes,' which translates to 'Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamification of the West,' and has quickly gained local mass appeal by demanding a more restrictive policy on Germany's acceptance of foreign refugees and asylum seekers. The movement has held weekly gatherings in Dresden since October that have drawn up to 25,000 participants and spread to similar rallies across the country, albeit with far fewer supporters.
