US-ART-LEWITT-DRAWING-INSTALLATION

Drafters Gabriel Hurier (L, top), Krysten Koehn (R, top), Sarah Heinemann (L, bottom) and Tim Wilson (R, bottom) apply the first of ten coats of paint to a panel of US artist Sol LeWitt's 1982 "Wall Drawing #370: Ten Geometric Figures (including right triangle, cross, X, diamond) with three-inch parallel bands of lines in two directions" as they install the large scale piece June 19, 2014 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Over a period of four weeks, five drafters in a gallery open to the public will prepare the 10 geometric figures set within squares that comprise the work, two of the completed figures (L and R) are seen. Tape protecting the white paint on the wall will later be removed to reveal the figure. The drawing will be on view in its complete state beginning June 30, 2014, and will remain on view through September 7, 2015, when it will be painted over. LeWitt, who died in 2007, left detailed instructions on how to install the drawings on museum walls. Wall Drawing #370 has only been installed once in 1982 at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
