TO GO WITH Australia-history-WWI-Gallipoli,FOCUS by Martin Parry This photo taken on April 11, 2015 shows an inscription to those at the Battle of Gallipoli on the ANZAC War Memorial, a monument completed in 1934 in Hyde Park in Sydney to commemorate the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landing at Anzac Cove at Gallipoli and other theatres of war in WWI. The chaos and carnage of the bloody Gallipoli in WWI defeat helped forge the identity of Australia and New Zealand as independent nations with the exploits of those who fought and died still finding relevance 100 years on. The ill-fated Gallipoli campaign begun on April 25, 1915 ended in defeat for Allied forces, with more than 11,000 Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers losing their lives on the battleground, which is now part of Turkey.
