BILIN, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - 2015/02/27: An Israeli soldier hurls a sound bomb into protesters and journalists who are standing feet away in the West Bank Palestinian village of Bil'in. Hundreds of Palestinians alongside with Israeli activists and international activists gathered in the West Bank Palestinian village of Bilin on what was the tenth anniversary of popular protests and peaceful demonstrations against the separation barrier in the West Bank and against illegal Israeli settlements that have been built on Palestinian land. Though the march was to be peaceful, a symbolic sign of what the town has come to stand for, protesters were met by Israeli soldiers who fired hundreds of rounds of tear gas into the crowd of hundreds from an army jeep on the other side of the barrier. Soldiers later invaded the village and threw sound bombs at protesters feet and legs, and fired multiple live fire rounds from M-16 guns. There were multiple arrests, including Palestinian and international activists who were hauled off into an Israeli army jeep. A journalist was injured when a rock struck him directly in the head. In 2005, the village started to organize weekly Friday demonstrations against the separation barrier that Israel has built on the farm lands of local Palestinian farmers and families from the village and against the neighboring illegal Israeli settlement which also sits on top of Palestinian land. Bilin garnered the worlds attention when a local film-maker Emad Burnat, also from the village filmed the Emmy award-winning and Oscar-nominated film, Five Broken Cameras. Since 2005, scores of Palestinians and international activists have been injured by Israeli soldiers in the village, and two Palestinians have been killed by tear gas canisters.
